Professor CHIANG Kin Seng is Chair Professor of Electronic Engineering at the City University of Hong Kong and a Fellow of the Optical Society of America. Professor Chiang is a world’s leading expert in the field of optical fibre technology. He has made extensive contributions in optical fibre and waveguide theory, optical sensors, fibre and waveguide devices, and nonlinear guided-wave optics. He is known, in particular, for a method he developed for refractive-index profiling of graded-index planar optical waveguides and his more recent studies on fibre and waveguide gratings. (2000/2001)
