Since it began operations, the Foundation has given over 1200 awards to some of Hong Kong's brightest young and mid-career scientists and medical doctors.
Here are some key dates in our history:
1979 The Trust Deed that set up the Foundation was finalized and signed in Hong Kong on 28th November 1979
1980 The Croucher Foundation held its first meeting on Monday 28 January 1980 and agreed to meet at least twice a year.
1980 Following Noel Croucher's death in March that year, Lord Todd, the Nobel Laureate and Master of Christ's College, Cambridge took over as the founding President of the Foundation.
1980 The first scholarship was granted.
1981 The first full scholarship programme was launched.
1989 'Follow Me to Science', a science communication programme partly funded by the Foundation, was launched on TV in Mainland China.
1992 Croucher Chinese Visitorships were introduced to help scientists from the Mainland carry out attachments in Hong Kong universities
1997 A Senior Research Fellowship scheme begins under the title 'Croucher Advanced Study Institute programme'.
1998 A biography of Noel Croucher, our founder, was published under the title of The Quest of Noel Croucher: Hong Kong's Quiet Philanthropist by the Hong Kong University Press.
2004 The Foundation celebrated its 25th anniversary and a new funding scheme with the Chinese Academy of Science began
2008 The Frontiers of Science meeting was held in Hong Kong. This was a landmark meeting of UK and Hong Kong scientists organised by the Royal Society in partnership with the Foundation.
2012 The Croucher Innovation Awards were launched and the Foundation was invited to become an academic partner of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting.
2015 The Croucher Symposium was launched to provide the most newest awardees with an opportunity to present their scientific work.
2018 The first edition of Croucher Science Week was held.
2022 The Croucher Climate Change Survey was launched.
2023 Sir Gregory Winter CBE FRS FMedSci, took up the chairmanship of the Croucher Foundation on 11 May 2023.
